Basic Care

Pogona vitticeps "bearded dragon"

Feeding:

*Each morning we start them off with fresh greens, mainly arugula and or organic spring mix.

*We alternate between small feedings of super worms, crickets and very occasional dubia roaches 2-3  times a day. All our feeders are supplied from Rainbow Mealworms.

Supplements:

*lightly dusted with our own mix of calcium gluconate, magnesium gluconate, magnanise gluconate, potassium gluconate and zinc gluconate all from high quality human grade medical sources.

Watering:

* Water dishes are good, change daily and keep level low.

*short baths 3-4 times a week in clean warm drinking water if not using a dish for younger dragons and less frequent as they age.

Lighting and temps:

*12hr cycle on a timer, adjust for seasons up to 14hrs.

*75-85F air temp.

*90-95F basking temp for babies, up to 100F for adults depending on air temp.

*10.0 Uv light required within basking area. Try not to think of the 2 types of bulbs as a cold side hot side, but more like a blend so they absorb both while they bask getting both UV and heat in the same spot.

*80-90F Belly heat is essential for their digestion. So many ways this can be achieved. Adding a stone under the basking light or even a black material that absorbs heat will work.

*no night heat required unless temperatures drop below 50F.

Enclosures/ housing:

*K.I.S.S. keep it stupid simple! elaborate display enclosures are not necessary but are nice to look at!

*40-60 gallon aquarium, or 4’ x 2’ x 18” melamine cage with sliding glass front, is perfect for a single adult dragon.

* blank or printed newspaper or even playsand for decorative substrate, avoid dyed sands.

*Set them up with  something that absorbs heat, like a flat stone and/or brick on one end of the cage is perfect for basking.  Belly heat is 100% necessary for digestion.

*Sandblasted grapevine and/or clean corkbark, work as great decorations.

*Avoid placing the cage around windows or drafty doors. Sun hitting the glass or open windows/doors may cause unwanted temperature fluxuations.

Cleaning:

*daily cleaning of old feeders, greens and feces.

*routinely change substrate and daily change paper or as soon as you see them defecate so they don't walk all over it.

Scaleless dragon care aka "silkies" care:

*Daily short baths or drinks with a dropper for hatchings, adults.

*No loose feeders  in the enclosure, especially at night, if you have have too much decor in the enclosure to clean each night simply place them in a tub.
